Our new national patient safety initiative, the Infection Cards have received official endorsement from the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners.
These cards give GPs and urgent care clinicians a practical tool to reinforce safety-netting conversations with patients who have an infection that can initially be managed at home.
The New Zealand Sepsis Trust has launched two Infection Cards, one for adults and one for parents and caregivers of children, outlining key warning signs that an infection may be worsening and when urgent medical reassessment is required.
The cards are designed to address an important challenge in primary care: an infection that appears uncomplicated at the initial consultation can evolve rapidly, with the patient potentially deteriorating after leaving the practice.
These cards have received official endorsement from the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners, as well as universal support from the Royal New Zealand College of Urgent Care, and ED & paediatric specialists.
